Barbera donates 10K to Fox Chase Cancer Center

Car dealer Gary Barbera last week presented a check for $10,000 to Fox Chase Cancer Center.

The money is earmarked for breast cancer research.

Gary Barbera’s on the Boulevard, a family owned and operated Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram car dealership at 7810 Roosevelt Blvd., provides support for Fox Chase through its “Help Kick Cancer to the Curb” campaign in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month., which is held in October.

About one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

In 2021, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 49,290 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer, according to breastcancer.org.

Accepting the donation were Dr. Richard Fisher, president and CEO of Fox Chase; Dr. Alexander Kutikov, chief of urologic oncology; Linda Hammell, director of community cancer screening; and Evelyn Gonzalez, senior director of the Office of Community Outreach. Fisher stepped down two days later.

State Rep Jared Solomon was supposed to join Barbera, but he tested positive for the coronavirus a day earlier. ••
