St. Hubert day trip
St. Hubert will hold its seventh annual summer fun day trip on Tuesday, June 21. There will be a one-hour ride on a cruise ship, followed by a four-hour stay at Resorts casino, with $10 back in slot cash. The day will end at the Tomasello winery for a sitdown dinner and complimentary wine tasting.

Training family medicine physicians
Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic announced that its Family Medicine Residency program has received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s Residency Review Committee. The program’s first class is scheduled to begin July 1.
The new Family Medicine residency program is co-sponsored by THMA’s Nazareth Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center. Residents in the program will complete their training at THMA’s newly constructed St. Mary Family Medicine practice, located at 3331 Street Road in Bensalem.
It is anticipated that more than 1,000 new primary care providers will be needed in Pennsylvania by 2030, or 11% of the current workforce, due to an aging, growing and increasingly insured population. The THMA Family Medicine residency program will graduate eight new family medicine physicians each year, beginning with its first class of graduates in 2025.

Strange was among 30 Special Operators killed when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan on Aug 6, 2011. Screen for lung cancer
Temple University Health System has launched a system-wide lung cancer screening program to catch the disease in its earliest stages. The new Temple Healthy Chest Initiative will combine and expand successful screening programs already in place. The program will also simultaneously screen for other common comorbidities, such as undiagnosed lung or heart disease, osteoporosis, sleep apnea, diabetes and other cancers. Screening for lung cancer involves a low-dose CT scan, which takes 10 minutes and requires no preparation on the patient’s part. State money for Oxford Circle CCDA
State Rep. Jared Solomon secured a $30,000 grant for the Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association from the Department of Community and Economic Development. The grant will be used for professional street cleaning initiatives and administrative costs associated with the Oxford Circle Cleaning Project.
“This is a shining example of what can happen when community organizations partner with state government for the benefit of our communities,” Solomon said. “I was happy to secure this grant for OCCCDA so they can continue the great work they do to make Northeast Philadelphia a great place to live.” ••

Fox Chase hires cancer researcher
Fox Chase Cancer Center announced the hiring of Amy M. Whitaker, who will join the Molecular Therapeutics research program and the Cancer Epigenetics Institute as an assistant professor. As a principal investigator, Whitaker will lead her research team in investigating pressing questions at the intersection of DNA damage, DNA repair and transcriptional regulation. Their long-term goal is to identify molecular targets that can be exploited to improve cancer therapies. ••

Register for Red Tiger Cup
The Red Tiger TKD Cup will take place on Saturday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bryn Athyn College’s Asplundh Fieldhouse, 2775 Buck Road, in Bryn Athyn. There will be competitions in sparring, patterns and special technique. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top three competitors in each division.
