Still time to help the needy

Our neighbors in the Northeast have been contacting the Times, and our 74th annual Eleanor Smylie Community Fund has been helping them.

The fund — named in memory of our late chairwoman — depends on the generosity of readers. All money collected is being used to purchase gift cards for individuals and families.

There is still time to donate. We will deliver the cards up until Christmas Eve.

We’ve heard from a Somerton married father of two who has struggled to find a career job since COVID, a West Mayfair man with health issues and only a small Social Security check and a Rhawnhurst senior citizen struggling on a low income.

We will publish the names of donors, unless you tell us you prefer to remain anonymous.

If you would like to request help, or if you know of someone who could use assistance, write a letter to:

Eleanor Smylie Community Fund

130 Twinbridge Drive

Pennsauken, NJ 08110

Include a name and contact information for an agency or person for verification.

Everything about the process will remain anonymous.

If you are able to donate, please send a check to the Eleanor Smylie Community Fund at the address above. Any amount would be appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration.
