Burholme hears 2nd Police District update

Mark Mroz, community relations officer in the 2nd Police District, spoke at last week’s meeting of the Burholme Civic Association.

Mroz mentioned that an 11-year-old in a stolen car crashed the vehicle in the vicinity of Northeast High School.

In a recent two-week period in the 2nd district, there were 72 cars stolen, including 47 Hyundais and Kias. Mroz said Northeast High students are suspected of being involved with some of the crimes.

Mroz recommends that people buy The Club.

A man was recently carjacked near Lawndale Avenue. When he went to Northeast Detectives to report the crime, the carjackers stole the other vehicle at his home.

In other news, Capt. Jim Kimrey has been transferred and replaced as district commander by Capt. Marc Metellus, the city’s first Haitian-American captain. Metellus was recently promoted from lieutenant, having last worked in South Detectives. Metellus will hold a captain’s town hall on March 15 at 6 p.m. at the Philadelphia Protestant Home.

Mroz recommends that people sign up for the Civilian Police Academy. CPA meets Wednesday nights for nine weeks at the Philadelphia Police Academy, 2838 Woodhaven Road. The next class will begin on April 23. For more information, contact Cpl. Megan Fabrizio at 215-934-4147 or Megan.Fabrizio@phila.gov.
