Domb talks crime outside Mayfair Pizza

Democratic mayoral candidate Allan Domb attended an event on Monday organized by the Interfaith Social Change Movement, a nonprofit community group working on solutions to the public safety crisis.

The event took place outside of Mayfair Pizza, 7424 Frankford Ave., where two employees were shot in an attempted robbery on March 8.

A 65-year-old woman was shot in the abdominal area. Her 34-year-old daughter was shot in the left shoulder.

The younger victim and other individuals at the scene held the offender down until police arrived on the scene.

Also attending Monday’s event was City Councilman Mike Driscoll.

Mayfair Pizza, owned by the same family for 28 years, has not reopened. A sign in the window reads, “We will be closed until further notice.”

Domb has released a 10-point crime plan that includes declaring a crime emergency on his first day in office. The rest of the plan is at https://www.votedomb.com/crimeplan.

“What has our city come to? It’s unacceptable,” he said.

Driscoll said he’s saddened that violent crime is “right here in Northeast Philadelphia” but is happy that the “thug” suspected in the crime has been arrested. The councilman met with the new 15th Police District commander, who has added foot patrols since the shooting. He has voted for funding to add police officers and also supports better equipment and training.

“I don’t want to hear defunding law enforcement,” he said.

Jim Hasher, who owns a Mayfair real estate office, attended the event. A Republican running for Council at large, he said he supports a crime declaration emergency and the rest of Domb’s plan. ••
