Making Aldine Street clean again

The Block Gives Back on Saturday completed its “Block Goes Green 4 Blocks in 4 Weeks” cleanups and block parties.

The Block picked a good street to finish its annual April initiative – the very dirty 4000 block of Aldine St.

After a couple hours of work by a few dozen volunteers, there were about 40 bags filled with trash and Aldine Street was clean again, though several potholes remain.

The Block received plenty of help.

Joe Picozzi, the Republican candidate in the 5th Senatorial District, joined the cleanup with a couple of campaign volunteers and brought water and pretzels.

There were also volunteers from Franklin Towne Charter High School, PowerCorpsPHL and the Bordentown, New Jersey-based Power for Our Planet.

Pond Lehocky donated money for two raffles won by girls, one who chose a bicycle and another who selected an electric scooter.

Ride Free Org supplied Gino’s pizza.

The block party featured plenty of food, basketball, football, face painting, music, chalk, bubbles, Hula Hoops, jump rope and cornhole.

Earlier in the month, the group cleaned the 5100 block of Warren St. in West Philadelphia, the 4100 block of Greeby St. in Tacony and the 2000 block of S. Cecil St. in Southwest Philadelphia. ••
