Dennis Hill, 27, was also charged with aggravated assault, endangering children, reckless endangerment, possessing an instrument of crime and making terroristic threats as he allegedly tried to stab his elder daughter, 4, with a dinner fork.

The episode occurred shortly before 10 a.m. when Hill and the girls were inside a house on the 1300 block of Sellers St. Relatives of Hill’s friend live there, according to a published news report. Philadelphia police said that a quarrel started, and Hill “grabbed” the daughters forcibly.

In an attempt to stop the apparent physical abuse, witnesses tried to pull the girls away from their father, police said. Hill allegedly dropped the month-old girl to the floor, while holding the other by the neck, choking her and attempting to stab her with a dinner fork.

Witnesses ultimately took the children to safety, overpowered Hill and held him until police arrived. The girls were taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in stable condition. The infant had bruises of the face, neck, back and arms. The older girl had no visible injuries, police said.

Hill remains in Philadelphia prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 10 in Family Court. ••
