Flea market on Saturday

Extended hours at Weitzman
The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, 101 S. Independence Mall East (5th and Market streets) will offer extended hours for the July 4 holiday week.
People can watch the July 4 parade pass by the museum, then go inside with free admission.
Activities will include design your crown during a read-aloud and performance by Khalil Munir; sing and dance along with Two of a Kind, an interactive musical performance; a self-paced scavenger hunt for kids of all ages; sensory-friendly play with Adoughma Play; make-and-take 4th of July crafts; and shopping in the museum store.
The museum will be open daily from Thursday, June 27, through July 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (until 7 p.m. on July 2). After July 7, the museum returns to Thursday through Sunday summer hours. ••
Community event in Rhawnhurst

Farmers market to open
The Food Trust will hold a weekly farmers market at Castor Avenue and Hellerman Street, beginning July 10. The market, featuring fresh fruits and vegetables, will be open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October and will include cooking demonstrations. ••
Street closures for Byberry Road resurfacing
Department of Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi announced temporary street closures and parking restrictions to accommodate street resurfacing of Byberry Road from Philmont Avenue to Roosevelt Boulevard, beginning June 27. This resurfacing operation is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Work will be completed in three separate phases: street milling, the adjustment of manhole covers and resetting of utility boxes, and final paving. Work for milling the old asphalt is anticipated to occur during the night shift and take about five nights to complete. Work for adjusting manhole covers and resetting utility boxes will take place during the day shift and is anticipated to last two to three days. Operations for the final paving are anticipated to occur during the night shift and take about five nights, weather dependent.
The paving and milling operations will take place in the overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Resetting utility boxes and manhole adjustments will take place during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The roadways will remain open with temporary flagging to direct traffic during daytime operations.
The work is being completed by James J. Anderson Construction Co., Inc. The project is being financed with federal and city funding, and the value of the contract is about $36.3 million. ••
Higher Homestead Exemption
Legislation co-introduced by Councilman Brian O’Neill will increase the Homestead Exemption from $80,000 to $100,000. The original proposal raising the Homestead Exemption to $90,000 was increased to $100,000 by amendment and approved unanimously by City Council.
If you own your primary residence, you are eligible to receive the Homestead Exemption, which reduces the taxable portion of your property’s assessed value. There are no income limits. If you are enrolled in the Homestead Exemption, you do not need to reapply.

Sign up for basketball camp
The 18th annual Jaguar Summer Basketball Camp will take place in the air-conditioned Marian Center at St. Ephrem, in Bensalem, from July 22-26.
