Cops bust duo, accuse them of hosting gambling in store

Two Castor Gardens residents were arrested May 11 on charges they were running a gambling operation in their furniture store on the 6800 block of Bustleton Ave.

Shao Ling Feng, 43, and Shu Yang Zhang, 44, both of the same address on the 2000 block of Disston St., were taken into custody after officers from the Philadelphia Police Department’s citywide vice unit raided the store at 6834 Bustleton Ave., said police spokeswoman Officer Christine O’Brien.

The two allegedly were running card tables and other games, O’Brien said. More than $2,100 in cash was confiscated, she added.

Feng and Zhang were charged with various gambling offenses. The store was shuttered, and the district attorney’s office as well as the city’s Department of Licenses and Inspections were notified about the alleged crimes at the property.

Both suspects were released on their own recognizance, online court records show.

An arraignment status hearing is scheduled for June 13.

According to city online property records, the two bought the one-story masonry property in October 2007 for $233,000.
