Police & firefighter football team earns playoff appearance

Despite suffering its first loss of the season on May 21 in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., Philadelphia’s police and fire football team, the Blue Flame, has qualified for a postseason game in the National Public Safety Football League.

The Blue Flame will travel to face the Chicago Enforcers on June 25 in the NPSFL Division II championship game.

The Enforcers are uniformed members of Chicago’s police department.

Philadelphia will enter the game with a 3–1 league record on the strength of wins at home over the New York Department of Sanitation Strongest, the Washington (D.C.) Generals and the Cleveland Warriors. The Blue Flame also has beaten the New York Department of Corrections in a non-league home game.

The Blue Flame lost in the Rose Bowl to the L.A. Heat, a team of firefighters and sheriffs from Los Angeles County. A win in that game would have propelled Philadelphia into the Division I championship contest.

Due to the unexpected postseason road trip, the Blue Flame is seeking additional sponsors.

The club is a registered non-profit organization with the mission of raising money for numerous local charities, including the Police Survivors Fund, the Philadelphia Fire Widows Fund and a summer camp for disabled children. The Blue Flame has donated $193,000 to local charities since its founding in 2004. To become a sponsor or for more information, call the Blue Flame executive board at 267–278–0589 or visit www.blueflamefootball.com ••
