Members of the Philadelphia Fire Department community and the general public are invited to attend the Mr. Philly Benefit for Local 22 Widows’ Fund on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Kings Oak in the Piazza, 1001 N. Second St., in Northern Liberties.
The event will celebrate the Philadelphia launch of the Nation’s Bravest: Firefighters Unite calendar for 2012, featuring Mr. Philadelphia and Northeast native Jack Slivinski Jr., who committed suicide following the production of the calendar.
Despite Slivinski’s death, his family encouraged the calendar’s producers to move forward with the project, which will raise money for firefighter-related charities around the nation, including the Local 22 Widows’ Fund in Philadelphia. Slivinski will be honored during the event.
Advance tickets are available for $30 by visiting www.NationsBravest.com
You can also buy them at the door for $40.
Admission includes cocktails, courtesy of Tito’s Vodka and Coors Light, along with hors d’oeuvres by Kings Oak.
Calendars will be available for purchase during the event, along with commemorative T-shirts.
The Widows’ Fund benefits the families of Philadelphia firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Local 22 of the International Association of Fire Fighters administers the charity. ••
