The East Torresdale Civic Association will hold a special general membership meeting on Monday to discuss several zoning applications at Maggie’s Waterfront Café, at Delaware Avenue and Arendel Street.
For much of the last two years, ETCA members and the ownership of the bar/restaurant have been at odds over quality-of-life issues including parking, vehicle and pedestrian traffic, noise, expansion of the business and the behavior of some of its patrons.
Kevin Goodchild, owner of the business, has applied to the city’s Department of Licenses and Inspections for a series of new building permits that will allow him to expand outdoor service and develop additional off-street parking.
Both the civic group and business owner have retained legal representation and have attempted to negotiate a compromise, as instructed by the city’s Zoning Board of Adjustment. Ultimately, Goodchild will have to appear before the ZBA to seek its approval for his proposed changes.
The civic association had planned to hold its monthly executive board meeting this coming Monday, but last week decided to open the meeting to the general membership, as well as other members of the public. It will start at 7 p.m. at Liberty Evangelical Free Church, Linden Avenue and Milnor Street. ••
