A 9-year-old boy critically injured himself on Sunday when he took his parents’ car for a joyride and crashed it on busy Roosevelt Boulevard.
The boy’s identity has not been released because of his age. The crash occurred at 9:14 a.m. on the 7900 block of Roosevelt Blvd., said Officer Tanya Little, a Philadelphia police spokeswoman.
The Chevy Malibu was traveling northbound in the inner lanes when the boy lost control of the vehicle and crashed it over a curb and into a tree, causing the car to overturn. The car came to rest on Rhawn Street.
The boy was taken by ambulance to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in critical but stable condition with undisclosed injuries.
His updated condition was unavailable because authorities have not released his name publicly. ••
