Holmesburg woman shot in attempted carjacking

A Holmesburg woman is expected to recover from a gunshot wound she suffered when a man tried to carjack her on Friday morning, police said.

The 26-year-old victim had just entered her car at 7 a.m. on the 7400 block of Jackson St. when a strange man opened the passenger-side door and tried to enter the car, said a police spokeswoman. The victim stepped on the accelerator and drove away. But as she did, the man shot her in the hip.

The woman drove to Cottman and Frankford avenues, where paramedics found her and took her to Aria Health-Torresdale. She is listed in stable condition.

Police announced an arrest in the case on Tuesday. Jeffrey Randall, 21, of the 1300 block of E. Lycoming St., has been charged with aggravated assault with a handgun, robbery and related offenses. His suspected motive was robbery. ••
