The eighth annual Northeast Philly 5-Mile Run and 2-Mile Walk is set for Sunday at Northeast Philadelphia Airport.
Participants can arrive at the airport entrance at Grant Avenue and Ashton Road.
Registration starts at 7 a.m., with the walk beginning at 8:15 a.m. and the run getting under way at 9 a.m. The registration fee is $20, or $10 for anyone age 14 and younger.
An awards ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. There will be prizes for the top three overall male and female runners, the winning Masters (over 40) and the top three in age groups.
Proceeds benefit the Northeast Philadelphia Sports Alliance, which consists of Academy Sabres Sports Association, Calvary Athletic Association, Liberty Bell Youth Organization, Parkwood Youth Organization, Penn Academy Athletic Association, Penn Crisp Inc., Philadelphia Soccer Club and Torresdale Boys Club. State Rep. and City Council candidate Dennis O’Brien (R-169th dist.) organizes the race.
There is plenty of free, on-site parking at the airport. The largely flat course will take runners and walkers on the pavement surrounding the perimeter of the airport. Cheerleaders will greet participants.
The morning will include a disc jockey and breakfast by Village Catering.
