Woman killed in Krewstown Road crash

An elderly woman died and another was critically injured Monday in a single-vehicle crash on a winding stretch of Krewstown Road in Pennypack Park.

The accident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on the 8500 block of Krewstown, just west of Algon Avenue, according to the Philadelphia Police Department’s accident investigation division.

A 2006 Lincoln Town Car driven by a woman in her 70s was traveling southbound when it failed to negotiate a bend in the road, crossed into the northbound lane, struck a guardrail and plummeted into several feet of water in the Pennypack Creek.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A 71-year-old woman passenger was taken to Aria Health Torresdale in critical condition. The identities of the victims have not been released.

No other vehicles were involved or injuries reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. ••
