Millbrook: It’s time to resurrect Town Watch

Millbrook is a small neighborhood, but it has its problems. Youths selling drugs and fighting are a couple of examples, and a few residents want to re-form a neighborhood Town Watch to address those problems before they grow.

At the Oct. 25 meeting of the Millbrook Civic Association at the Calvary Athletic Association on Deerpath Lane, recording secretary Mike Bremser said there recently had been a fight involving neighborhood teens and older teens from outside the neighborhood, and that drug sales continue.

Bremser encouraged residents to get in touch with Ken Grow and Mike Lamb, neighborhood men who want to reinvigorate a Town Watch that has dwindled in strength over the past few years. Town Watch members have no police powers, but they alert police of problems. They “observe and report” either by patrolling an area or from their own homes.

Grow and Lamb are putting together a neighborhood march from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, so residents interested in joining a Town Watch or in just showing their commitment to safety in Millbrook can demonstrate that to their community — and to the young people who are causing trouble.

The march will start at the Calvary Athletic Association, the organizers said.

Anyone interested should call Grow after 5 p.m. at 215–637–6861 or 215–859–8204 or e-mail him at [email protected]. Lamb can be reached, also after 5 p.m., at 215–612–2399 or 267–294–4760.

Bremser said nominations for the association’s 2012 officers will be taken at the next monthly meeting, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Calvary.

If there is only one candidate for each of the offices, there will be no election and the December session will be canceled, Bremser said. Offices up for election are president, first vice president, second vice president, treasurer and recording secretary.
