Lawncrest has a lot on its plate

Members of the Lawncrest Community Association last week welcomed officials from the 2nd Police District and the city managing director’s office.

The group also observed a moment of silence for former heavyweight boxing champion Smokin’ Joe Frazier.

Although families haven’t even sat down for Thanksgiving dinner, it’s not too early to think about the Lawncrest 4th of July celebration. To volunteer, call 215–651–8470.

There will be several local events early next month.

On Thursday, Dec. 1, state Sen. Shirley Kitchen (D-3rd dist.) will sponsor a free emergency preparedness and energy conservation workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. at CORA, at 8540 Verree Road. The public is invited, and weatherization materials will be distributed.

On Saturday, Dec. 3, Friends of Lawncrest Library will hold a holiday craft show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library, at 6098 Rising Sun Ave. The sale will include baked goods, books, jewelry, candles, greeting cards, crochet items and soap.

On Thursday, Dec. 8, Crescentville United Methodist Church will sponsor a day trip to the Sight & Sound Millennium Theatre in Lancaster County. Visitors will see the show Miracle of Christmas, which includes the birth of Jesus, live animals, greenery, live music, special effects and a 30-foot-tall Christmas tree. A bus will pick up guests at 8:30 a.m. at the church, at 412 Sentner St.

The cost is $100, which includes the show, dinner and transportation. Travelers will be able to shop and have lunch at the Kitchen Kettle Village before the show. The bus will return sometime after 8:30 p.m. Call Sue Snyder at 215–885–7069 or visit www.crescentvilleumc.com

Lawncrest Community Association will meet again on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m., at St. William parish hall, at Argyle and Robbins streets. ••
