Mayfair is shining bright

The Mayfair Business Association and Mayfair Civic Association hosted their annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony on Sunday, with Pennypack Park Music Festival founder Ed Kelly doing the honors.

It’s been a memorable few months for Kelly, a World War II veteran and former president of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

Kelly celebrated his 85th birthday with more than 3,000 people at a July park concert. Organizers named the stage in his honor. He also was grand marshal of last month’s Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade.

The tree is located at 7216–18 Frankford Ave., in the courtyard seating area next to Frusco’s Steak Shop. It features colored lights, ornaments and a star on top, and the light posts are adorned with wreaths.

Santa Claus made an appearance, and there was live music, Christmas cookies and hot chocolate.

Anne Marie Muldoon, of Avenue Chiropractic, 6233 Frankford Ave., collected gifts for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign.

Muldoon’s next-door neighbor, Grey Lodge Pub owner and Mayfair Business Association president Mike “Scoats” Scotese, is offering a free beer or non-alcoholic beverage to anyone who brings in a new, unwrapped toy by Dec. 15. The pub is at 6235 Frankford Ave. ••
