The 8th Police District Advisory Council recognized Daniel Richardson and Mark Mazzoni as Officers of the Month for October during the council’s monthly meeting on Dec. 7.
Richardson and Mazzoni captured three alleged auto thieves outside Franklin Mills mall.
The officers were working on the 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. shift on Oct. 8 when they responded to a police radio call at 11:25 p.m. regarding suspicious people at the mall. They arrived in the Franklin Mills parking lot and saw three men inside a red Honda Civic with the engine running. Through investigation and information from witnesses, the officers determined that the Honda had been reported stolen from the 24th Police District.
Richardson and Mazzoni further determined that one of the suspicious men had broken into another Honda, black and gray in color, that also was parked outside the mall. The men allegedly damaged the vehicle’s ignition and steering column and drove it to another area of the mall parking lot.
Richardson and Mazzoni arrested all three men, who were charged with theft, unauthorized use of an auto, conspiracy and related criminal offenses. ••
