The carcasses of several decapitated animals were found on a Far Northeast property last week.
The 11 animals — ducks, chickens and goats — might have been humanely killed, said Wendy Marano, a spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They might have been killed in religious rituals, which isn’t illegal in Pennsylvania as long as the animals were killed humanely, she said, “which this appears to be.”
But dumping their carcasses isn’t legal, she added, so investigators are trying to find who did it. The dead animals were found last Thursday at Dutton and Comly roads, Marano said.
Dumping dead animals is common enough in Philadelphia, Marano said. The PSPCA gets one call a month about the crime. The calls “usually are similar to this case,” she said.
There are fines of up to $300 per animal for anyone convicted of dumping carcasses, Marano said. ••
