The artist who will paint a series of murals for the Frankford business corridor talked up the project last week at a meeting of the Northeast EPIC Stakeholders.
Muralist Cesar Viveros and project manager Netanel Portier said they have interviewed and videotaped talks with neighborhood residents about the images they’d like to see in the Imagining Frankford murals.
Riding on the El led him to believe he wanted to create art that can be seen from the train, Viveros said at the Feb. 23 session conducted at Aria Health’s Frankford campus.
The project could include up to eight murals of various sizes, Portier said during a Feb. 24 interview.
Mural Arts has commitments from two property owners who will allow murals to be installed on their buildings, she said. She’s working to get more but said finding owners has not been easy.
She said sites believed to be best for murals have been picked out, but she has a second list to draw from if she can’t get the OKs to use the buildings on the first list.
Portier said she is hoping mural production will begin by late spring and installation will begin in the summer.
