Officer John Krawczyk makes a lot of arrests, Capt. Frank Bachmayer told members of the 15th Police District Advisory Council last week.
That’s why he is the PDAC’s January Officer of the Month, the district commander said.
Bachmayer pointed to an arrest that took place on Jan. 19. A woman had been strong-armed by two men on the 4200 block of Torresdale Ave. At Arrott and Griscom streets, Krawczyk later saw two men who fit the description of the men the victim had provided police. The officer gave chase and arrested the pair, the captain said.
Gunpoint robberies increased in January and February over the same period last year, the captain said. Residential burglaries are up, too, though that increase was not large. Officers also detained many juveniles for curfew violations or truancies.
These crimes were committed throughout the district, he said. Some arrests have been made, he added. Officers recently caught a burglar while he was in a house on the 7000 block of Jackson St.
The two spates of mid-February tire slashings on Aldine Street in Mayfair were on everyone’s minds.
“We stopped a couple people,” but no one has been arrested, the captain said during the PDAC’s Feb. 27 meeting, but at that point, no arrests had been made.
Patrols were increased, he said, with the intention of deterring more vandalism and catching the culprits. ••
