Ambulance company rolls into the Far NE

EMStar Ambulance recently celebrated the grand opening of its 10,000-square-foot headquarters at 225 Geiger Road.

City Councilman Brian O’Neill (R-10th dist.) attended the ceremony. EMStar was formerly based in Roxborough.

“We always welcome new businesses moving to the Far Northeast,” said O’Neill, adding that he hopes many of the employees decide to move closer to their new job site.

EMStar wanted to remain in Philadelphia, where it has operated for 25 years. It also wanted to be more conveniently located for its 180 employees. And it wanted to better serve its 100-plus client hospitals and institutions.

Over the last year, the company has invested $2 million to modernize its vehicle fleet and more than $500,000 to redesign and upgrade its new facility.

“In our business, you’re only as good as your last ride,” said CEO Joseph Zupnik. “Our new facility — with its central location, advanced technological capacity and ideal layout — will help ensure that each and every ride delivers expert service to our client institutions and high-quality care to the patients in our vehicles.”

Each year, EMStar completes more than 100,000 medical transports, including wheelchair vans, basic and advanced life support ambulances and 911 emergency responses. ••
