Man killed in argument in Frankford

A 25-year-old man was killed and his 49-year-old stepfather wounded when an argument sparked gunfire in front of the older man’s Frankford home on Sunday night, police said.

Officers from the 15th district went to the 1200 block of Adams Ave. at 10:08 p.m. in response to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found the younger man, Edward Pagan, with multiple wounds of the chest and buttocks, and his stepfather, Victor Guzman, with a single wound of the left forearm.

Both victims were taken to Temple University Hospital, where Pagan died at 11:33 p.m. Guzman was treated and released.

No arrests have been made. Police did not release descriptions of suspects. The murder weapon was not recovered.

Guzman is not a suspect in the shooting, police said, although a published news report stated that he had been seen holding and firing a gun into the air prior to the arrival of police.

On Monday, Guzman spoke to news reporters at his home and said that the gunman had approached Pagan to ask him for a cigarette. When Pagan refused, an argument ensued.

Guzman reportedly said that during the shooting, he ran into his house to retrieve his own gun. But when he went back outside, the shooter was gone. That prompted Guzman to fire his own gun once into the air in frustration, he said.

Guzman has not been charged criminally. He is a Philadelphia corrections officer, according to published reports. ••
