No one was injured in a two-alarm fire Sunday on the 4400 block of Paul St. in Frankford. However, part of 4444 Paul St. collapsed into an adjoining post office property, damaging some Postal Service vehicles, Executive Chief Richard Davison said Monday.
The vacant apartment building had been the scene of another fire about a year ago, the chief said.
He said firefighters arrived at the burning building at 11:28 a.m. Sunday. A second alarm was sounded. The fire was under control at 1:28 p.m., the chief said. The cause is under investigation.
Residents of nearby homes were evacuated, Davison said, but the fire didn’t touch any other buildings. The Red Cross reported that it provided temporary housing Sunday for 17 people who lived near the fire.
On Saturday night, less than one-tenth of a mile from the Paul Street blaze, another fire displaced the occupants of two homes on the 1600 block of Kinsey St.
Firefighters arrived at 1675 Kinsey St. at 6:46 p.m. and found the structure ablaze, according to Davison.
The fire was under control by 7:07 p.m., he said, after it had spread to rear sheds of adjacent properties at 1673 and 1677 Kinsey St. Several residents of those two addresses were sheltered by the Red Cross, the chief said.
No one was injured and the fire’s cause is under investigation, Davison said. ••
