At Northwood Civic Association meeting earlier this month, some neighbors complained about broken windows in their homes.
Neighbors blame young teenagers for throwing rocks through the windows on the 1200 block of Haworth St. and the 1100 block of Kenwyn St. Corner properties seem to be getting targeted.
Residents have alerted the staff at H.R. Edmunds Elementary School to monitor students at dismissal. They have also made roll call reports to the 15th Police District.
In addition, civic association members will mention their concerns to officers at Police District Advisory Council and Police Service Area meetings.

• Soon-to-be state Rep. James Clay was in attendance.
Clay planned to challenge Rep. Tony Payton in the Democratic primary in the 179th Legislative District, but the incumbent dropped out after his nominating petitions were challenged in court and it became clear he didn’t have the minimum 300 valid signatures.
Thus, Clay ran alone in the primary. No Republican filed, so Clay will have a clear path to victory in the Nov. 6 general election.
Clay expects to open a district office on the 4900 block of Frankford Ave. He plans to work with neighboring Rep. John Taylor, a Northwood resident and Republican who faces a challenge from Democrat William Dunbar.
• The Police Officer Gary Skerski Memorial Golf Outing will take place this Saturday at the John F. Byrne Golf Club, at 9500 Leon St. in Torresdale.
The event starts at 8 a.m. and will use a best ball format. The cost is $85 per person. There will be a barbecue, raffle and silent auction.
Skerski was the 15th district’s community relations officer when he was shot to death in 2006 while responding to an armed robbery at Pat’s Café, at 4690 Castor Ave.

• St. James Lutheran Church, at Castor Avenue and Pratt Street, will hold a “Call to Worship” rally on Saturday, June 9, from 3 to 6 p.m., on its side lawn. There will be live music, worship, Gospel messages, testimonies, food, refreshments and a preschool open house. The rain date is Sunday, June 10.
• The City Planning Commission will hold a meeting about its Lower Northeast District Plan on Tuesday, June 12, at 6:30 p.m., in the gymnasium of St. Martin of Tours, at 5450 Roosevelt Blvd.
The city’s Philadelphia 2035 initiative features 18 district plans. The Lower Northeast plan consists of Northwood, Frankford, Summerdale, Oxford Circle, Lawndale and Crescentville. Guests can comment on future development, zoning changes, public investments and proposals for city-owned land and facilities.

• Applications are being taken for the Philadelphia Police Department Civilian Police Academy. All Philadelphians age 18 and older are eligible, provided they pass background and criminal record checks. Classes take place at the police academy, at 8501 State Road. Smoking is prohibited. • The civic association voted unanimously to donate $300 to the fledgling Northwood Town Watch.
