An Amtrak commuter train struck and killed a man on the railroad’s Northeast Corridor tracks near Holmesburg Station at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Philadelphia police said the victim was 60 years old, but they did not disclose his identity. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An Amtrak spokeswoman referred all questions about the victim to police.
The northbound train originated in Washington, D.C., and was destined for New York City. It had last stopped at North Philadelphia Station, Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue, and was next scheduled to stop at Cornwells Heights Station.
It is unknown why the victim was on the tracks.
There were 120 passengers on board, the Amtrak spokeswoman said. No injuries were reported to passengers or crew. Passengers were led off the train and transferred to alternate trains to reach their destinations.
The incident disrupted Amtrak and SEPTA service in the area for more than an hour. ••
