O’Brien’s successor in state House opens district office

Newly elected state Rep. Ed Neilson has opened a constituent service office in Academy Plaza, at 3256 Red Lion Road.

Neilson, a Democrat, took office last month, after winning a special election against Republican Dave Kralle. The seat became open when Denny O’Brien joined City Council at the beginning of the year.

A district office became part of the campaign. Kralle, who worked for O’Brien in his state House and City Hall offices, vowed to reopen O’Brien’s office at 9811 Academy Road.

Noting that constituents had to walk down steps to get into the office, Neilson pledged to open in a handicapped accessible location.

“When selecting an office location, it was extremely important to me that all constituents have access to the office and the services that my staff and I can provide,” he said. “We are looking forward to serving the 169th Legislative District.”

Constituents can stop by or call the office at 215–281–3414 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Neilson and Kralle will square off in November for a two-year term. The Legislative Reapportionment Commission is expected to move the seat to York County starting in 2014.

Meanwhile, Neilson is recommending that Philadelphia homeowners apply for a homestead exemption by July 31 for potential property tax relief.
