The Walmart store at 9745 Roosevelt Blvd. recently celebrated its recent renovations by making charitable contributions to a local school and a popular music festival.
The department store presented a $3,000 check to Our Lady of Calvary, which is the largest Catholic elementary school in the Northeast. Principal Sister Mildred Chesnavage and pastoral council member Ed Turzanski accepted the donation.
The store also gave $1,000 to the Pennypack Park Music Festival, which offers concerts most Wednesday nights during the summer. Board member Jerry Lathrop accepted the check.
Others receiving contributions were the Clean Air Council and Logan Hope School.
Greater Kensington String Band provided musical entertainment. Walmart employee Regina Quaiser sung The Star-Spangled Banner.
The local store, which is located in the Whitman Plaza shopping center, employs 320 people, many of whom joined in for the “Walmart cheer.”
Store manager George Smith recognized the 33 employees who’ve been with the company since the store opened in 2004.
