Game officers are looking for what they believe is a hybrid of wolf and some other animal that is living in Pennypack Park.
That’s right, Pennypack Park!
Officials received photographs of an animal living in the park and were questioned whether it was a coyote, wolf or dog. The first photographs received were inconclusive, but it appeared to be a dog. Additional photographs were acquired and it now is believed that the animal is a wolf-hybrid, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
“With the assistance of personnel from the Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania and local animal control agents, we are making every effort to capture the animal alive,” said Doug Killough, Game Commission Southeast Region director. “We want to capture it so that the animal may be transferred to a properly licensed facility where it can get the care it needs and does not present any safety issues to the general public.
“So far, we are not aware of the animal showing any aggressive behavior, but it is imperative that the general public stays out of the area for both their safety and to avoid interfering with the capture efforts.”
The Game Commission is asking for information about who may have once owned this animal. Anyone with information can call the agency’s Southeast Region Office at 610–926–3136.
A request for more information was not answered as the Northeast Times went to press on Tuesday. ••
