Give him a Bear hug

Bear is a medium-sized, 1- to 2-year-old male Staffordshire mix who is staying at Philadelphia’s Animal Care and Control, at 111 W. Hunting Park Ave.

The dog used to have a home, but his owners had to move and he was not able to go along.

Bear is deaf, and shelter volunteers can teach the adopters the appropriate hand signals and what they will need to know to properly take care of him.

The dog walks great on a leash and is already neutered.

Adoption hours are weekdays from 1 to 8 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ••

Barnabas needs your help

Barnabas and his siblings were 14-day-old orphaned kittens when they arrived on Northeast Animal Rescue’s doorstep for help.

Now 3 months old, Barnabas and his siblings have defied the odds and have grown up healthy and strong.

However, upon an exam prior to his neuter surgery, Barnabas was found to have an injury to his genitalia, with a stenotic urethra. After a consultation with a veterinary surgeon, NAR learned that Barnabas will need a corrective surgery called a perineal urethrostomy.

NAR is asking for the public’s help to offset the cost of this life-saving procedure, so that Barnabas can overcome another hurdle in his fight to live the life he deserves.

Two tabs up for grabs

Bob and Weave are 12-week-old orange tabby kittens who were found living orphaned in a basement complex. They are in foster care via Forgotten Cats.

The brothers are playful and are gentle around other cats. They are neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped, and have tested negative for the feline leukemia and immunodeficiency viruses.

To apply to adopt Bob and Weave, visit www.petfinder.com/shelters/PA586.html or go to the PetSmart at 901 Old York Road in Abington. ••
