Philadelphia police have arrested a Rhawnhurst teenager suspected of beating an 86-year-old woman after invading her home on July 11.
Dimetry Worthy, 19, of the 2200 block of Strahle St., is also responsible for another home invasion in which a 62-year-old woman was victimized, along with three other break-ins involving a home and two parked cars, police said.
On July 11 at 1:25 p.m., an 86-year-old woman was sleeping inside her home on the 8100 block of Algon Ave. when she awoke to find Worthy standing over her demanding to know where her money was, police said. As the victim screamed for help, Worthy allegedly struck her numerous times before fleeing empty-handed.
The victim suffered an orbital fracture and facial cuts and was treated at Aria Health-Torresdale.
Police arrested Worthy later that day after he allegedly attempted to break into another home on the 2100 block of Emerson St., about two blocks from his own residence.
Worthy was then linked to two auto break-ins that occurred July 10 on the 8100 block of Algon Ave., the same block where the 86-year-old woman lived. Worthy allegedly “ransacked” a 2009 Honda and 2010 Nissan, according to police. It is not known if anything was taken.
According to police, Worthy committed another home invasion on March 17 on the 2400 block of Hoffnagle St., about three blocks from his own residence. The 62-year-old woman awoke to find a man touching her and demanding money. She took him to her kitchen and gave him $25 in cash and change, two candlesticks and two bottles of vodka. The woman was not injured.
Worthy has been charged with aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, trespassing, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, attempted auto theft, conspiracy and related crimes. He is scheduled for an Aug. 2 preliminary hearing. ••
