Burglar steals $65,000 in cash from Wissinoming home

A burglar hit the jackpot when he broke into a Wissinoming home on Aug. 1, stealing $65,000 in cash plus jewelry, according to Philadelphia police.

A 34-year-old man flagged down a 15th district patrol officer at about 6:30 that evening to report that someone had broken into his house on Jackson Street near Harbison Avenue. The victim found a ladder propped against an open second-floor window.

The victim said he had left the house at about noon and returned home at 6 p.m. In addition to the cash and jewelry, the burglar also stole a video recording device hooked up to the victim’s surveillance camera.

A woman resident of the home told a television news reporter that her family had just sold a North Philadelphia bar and was planning to use the proceeds of the sale to buy a grocery store.

Police have not released a description of a suspect. ••
