The 21st annual Tacony History Day festivities are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15.
The event is coordinated by the Historical Society of Tacony, the Tacony Civic Association and the Tacony Community Development Corporation.
The highlight is a parade that kicks off at 11 a.m. at Torresdale Avenue and Hellerman Street. The route proceeds north on Torresdale, west on Princeton Avenue and south on Cottage Street. The parade ends at Disston Recreation Center, at 4510 Disston St.
The grand marshal will be music legend Charlie Gracie. Other participants will include the Greater Kensington, Ferko and Polish American string bands; Irish Thunder Pipes and Drums; and the Father Judge High School band.
There will be a festival at Disston Recreation Center from noon to 4 p.m. Activities include children’s rides, games, contests, sand art, spin art and face-painting.
Entertainment will be provided by Anna Marie’s Academy of Dance, Tommy Conwell, Bison and F-3.
Indoors, there will be a large exhibit of local history. Guided trolley tours of the historic Disston Estate will be offered.
Food and refreshments will be available.
The event is funded by local businesses and a grant from the city Department of Recreation, with the assistance of City Councilman Bobby Henon.
