The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the filing of a five-count federal grand jury indictment against a Philadelphia man accused of two armed robberies of a Northeast bank, as well as the robbery of a local convenience store.
Christopher Cedres, 37, has been in local custody since Philadelphia police arrested him on Jan. 14 in connection with the robberies. He has failed to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail.
The new federal charges, announced last Thursday, include two counts of bank robbery, interfering with interstate commerce and two firearm violations.
Cedres is accused of robbing the Republic Bank, at 7300 Frankford Ave., at gunpoint last June 21 and again last Dec. 7. Each time, he allegedly made off with about $560 cash. Then on Jan. 14, he allegedly robbed the Wawa, at 6935 Castor Ave., and made off with one pack of Newport cigarettes.
If convicted, he faces possible life imprisonment and would be subjected to a mandatory minimum of seven years in prison, five years of supervised release and a $1.5 million fine. ••
