Civic associations plan their meetings

Several local civic associations have set their agendas for their September meetings.

Mayfair Civic Association will meet on Monday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m., at the Mayfair Community Center, at 2990 St. Vincent St.

The city election commissioners’ office will demonstrate a voting machine.

Also, members will consider a proposed zoning change to a property at 7635 Roosevelt Blvd. The owner is proposing to convert a former dental and real estate office into a two-family dwelling.

Lawncrest Civic Association will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m., at St. William parish hall, at Argyle and Robbins streets.

The guest speakers will be Mark Mroz, community relations officer in the 2nd Police District; Joe Rooney, the Republican candidate in the 13th Congressional District; and Sterling Garris and Bianca Gillis, officials of Tacony Academy Charter School, which has opened for 300 ninth- through 11th-graders at the former St. William Elementary School.

On Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m., the Upper Holmesburg Civic Association will meet at St. Dominic’s Marian Hall, 8532 Frankford Ave. Summertime developments in the future use of the former Liddonfield Homes site are expected to be among the topics of discussion.

Take Back Your Neighborhood will meet on Monday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m., at Max Myers Playground, at 1601 Hellerman St. The speakers will be Lorrie McKinley, a disabilities attorney, and Dennis Lee, a chief deputy city elections commissioner who will discuss the new voter identification law.

An official from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is expected to speak at the next Holme Circle Civic Association meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m., in the St. Jerome’s School library, Stamford and Colfax streets. The topic will be future highway construction on Pennypack Circle at the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Holme Avenue. ••
