Police seize heroin in Rhawnhurst

Narcotics investigators seized packaged heroin worth more than $100,000 from a Rhawnhurst man on Sept. 21 during searches of his apartment and car, police said.

According to Sgt. Robert Friel of the Philadelphia police’s Narcotics Field Unit North, a Dominican Republic citizen named Richard Nunez distributed heroin for street-level sales in the city’s East Division and in Wilmington, Del.

Nunez, 33, lived in an apartment at 8020 Algon Ave. and allegedly used it to stash and package bulk quantities of the drug.

Officer Robert Clark and other investigators saw the suspect leave the apartment building at about 6:20 p.m. and enter a 2007 Toyota Camry. When police stopped the vehicle at Stanwood Street and Castor Avenue, they allegedly saw heroin inside the vehicle.

The officers seized 1,540 individually wrapped packets from the car, then another 2,369 packets from the apartment, totaling about 308 grams (11 ounces) of the drug, with a “street value” of $101,729, Friel said. Investigators also seized drug packaging devices and supplies.

Nunez was charged with drug possession, possession with intent to deliver and possessing drug paraphernalia. ••
