A Lawncrest man has been arrested in connection with the Oct. 7 shooting and robbery of a SEPTA subway passenger in North Philadelphia.
Police arrested Shawn Walker, 18, of the 500 block of Anchor St., on attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault and related offenses on Oct. 11, two days after authorities released surveillance images of the suspect publicly and received a civilian tip about the suspect’s identity.
Walker reportedly was hiding out at the home of a relative in East Frankford and attempted to flee police before his capture.
Authorities later charged Walker with a second robbery that occurred on Oct. 5 near 16th Street and Lehigh Avenue.
The Oct. 7 crime occurred in the subway station at Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue at 7:40 p.m. The victim reported to police that he had just exited a northbound train and was approaching a flight of stairs when he saw Walker turn toward him, brandish a handgun and demand his valuables.
The victim tried to run, but Walker allegedly shot him once in the hip, then demanded his money again. The victim handed Walker $280 cash and credit cards, police said.
Walker is being held on $800,000 bail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 29. ••
