In the last two weeks, the Northeast Times has taken a step back from its high school football coverage to accommodate a hectic soccer postseason schedule. With the Public and Catholic League soccer championships expected to be resolved by Thursday evening, the Times will dive back into football in earnest to cover the playoff slate.
Before looking to the weekend ahead, here’s a look back at last weekend’s two Public League AAAA First Round match-ups:
Friday, October 26:
Northeast 44, Furness 0: The Vikings dismantled Furness behind two touchdowns from running back Rushawn Grange (7 carries, 77 yards), two from receiver Devon Dillard (one receiving, one punt return for a score) and a touchdown and four point-after conversions from Shimeek Carter. Northeast advanced to Friday’s semifinal game against Frankford, who knocked off the Vikings 27–6 earlier this season.
Saturday, October 27:
Central 44, Lincoln 0: A game initially scheduled for Friday afternoon was pushed to Saturday morning when Lincoln failed to show to the contest at Central due to transportation issues with school buses. The extra day didn’t help the Railsplitters (of the AAAA Silver Division), who were overwhelmed by the Lancers of the stronger Gold Division. Central advanced to this Friday’s other semifinal game against Washington, who knocked off Central in a close 20–16 contest earlier this season.
The schedule ahead:
Friday, November 2:
Catholic League AAAA Semifinal (at Germantown High School): Archbishop Ryan vs. St. Joseph’s Prep, 7 p.m.
Saturday, November 3:
Public League AAAA Semifinals (at Northeast High School):
Northeast vs. Frankford, 3Â p.m.
Central vs. George Washington, 6:30
