Three armed men tortured a Northwood man with a blow torch early Saturday before robbing him, police said Monday.
The 32-year-old victim was returning to his home on the 5200 block of Castor Ave. at about 1:30 a.m. when he was grabbed by a trio of armed men. They bound, blindfolded, gagged and drove the victim to an unknown location in a white SUV, said Officer Jillian Russell, a police department spokeswoman.
In an attempt to get some kind of information from the man, his abductors beat him and burned him with a blow torch, Russell said. They later returned him to his home, bound him with his wife and threatened them before getting $5,000 in cash and fleeing, she said. Russell said police don’t know what the abductors wanted to learn.
All of the men were black and all wore dark, military-style clothing. One man was very muscular and had a wide face, Russell said. Another was short and thin. There was no further description of the third man. ••
