Tires slashed in Somerton

More than a dozen Somerton residents woke up on Jan. 29 to discover that vandals had punctured the tires on their parked vehicles.

The damage affected 31 tires on 15 vehicles over an area of about six square blocks, including the 10700 block of Lockart Road and the 200 block of Regina St., said Philadelphia Police Capt. Joe Zaffino. The crimes were reported at about 7 a.m. and had occurred during the early morning hours. Damages were estimated at $4,000.

Police don’t know how many culprits were involved and continue to search for possible witnesses. The damaged tires had one-inch punctures.

Zaffino encouraged any witnesses to call Northeast Detectives at 215–686–3153. Further, residents should keep an eye out for suspicious activity in their neighborhoods and call 911 if they see a stranger walking around in pre-dawn hours. ••
