Bustleton votes on zoning

Members of the Greater Bustleton Civic League on March 27 voted to support one zoning variance request, but shot down another.

They overwhelmingly refused to support a variance application to put a used-car sales office and lot at 9900 Bustleton Ave. Residents of nearby condo associations sent letters denouncing the proposed use. A variance is needed because the property’s zoning does not permit car sales. Several members told attorney Shawn Ward, who presented the proposal, that they feared traffic problems from the plan.

The city’s Zoning Board of Adjustment will make the final decision, but the panel does want to know the community’s opinions of variance applications.

The zoning board will hear positive things about another variance Ward presented the same night. Members supported a proposal to allow a Keller-Williams real estate office to expand into an unused contractor’s storage space at 1917 Welsh Road. Members had no problem supporting a modification of an existing variance on the property that has residential zoning.

The league’s next monthly meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, at the American Heritage Federal Credit Union on Red Lion Road. ••
