Princeton Avenue On-Ramp to I-95 North to Close Next Weekend

Continuing construction on the $212 million project to improve Interstate 95 through the Cottman Avenue Interchange (Exit 30) in Northeast Philadelphia will restrict travel near the interchange over the next 10 days for overhead bridge construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

New State Road will be closed and detoured between State Road and Milnor Street in Philadelphia from 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 13, to allow crews to work throughout the weekend to remove the deck, parapet and beams from the southbound side of the overhead I-95 bridge.

New State Road traffic will be detoured over State Road and Longshore Avenue during this weekend’s street closure.

Next weekend, crews will move to the I-95 bridge over the Princeton Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-95, closing the Princeton Avenue ramp from 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 20, for demolition of the southbound side of the overpass.

On-ramp traffic will be detoured north on State Road to Linden Avenue and the on-ramp to I-95 north at the Academy Road Interchange.

Southbound I-95 also will be reduced from three lanes to two at the Cottman Avenue Interchange from 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, to 5 a.m. Saturday, May 18, for construction on the bridge over the Princeton Avenue on-ramp.

These operations are part of PennDOT’s $212 million project to rebuild and widen 1.4 miles of I-95 between Rhawn Street and Levick Street to enhance travel and safety.
