15th PDAC honors Wetzel for longtime support, officers for arrests

Members of the 15th Police District Advisory Council on Monday night honored the Rev. Steve Wetzel, pastor of St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church, for his longtime support of the organization.

Last month, PDAC members honored four businesses for their continued support: Frankford Avenue convenience store Sugar N Spice, bar-restaurant Chickie’s and Pete’s, Castor and Erie model train business Bachmann Trains and cold cuts giant Dietz & Watson.

Also during the April session, the PDAC honored James Putro and Stanley Galiczynski as March Officers of the Month. The two made multiple arrests during March, according to Community Relations Officer Sharon Krause.

Among those arrests were five for narcotics offenses and two for rapes. Galiczynski and Putro also arrested two violent criminals in a home invasion and confiscated two guns.

Many community organizations, including police district advisory councils, suspend meetings in July and August, but that has not been the 15th PDAC’s practice. However, members on Monday decided to scratch their July meeting and resume sessions in August.

The PDAC’s next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 24, at the Mayfair Community Center on St. Vincent St. ••
