Armed masked man robs Mayfair bank

A masked man armed with a small silver handgun robbed a Mayfair bank May 15, police said.

The robber, who covered his face with a light blue or gray bandana, entered the PNC bank on the 6800 block of Frankford Ave. at 10:08 a.m., authorities said.

He displayed the handgun, threatened violence and forced several bank employees to the floor. The man then demanded money from a teller. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the subject fled on foot, heading north on Frankford Avenue, then east on Longshore Avenue.

There were no customers in the bank at the time of the robbery, and no bank employees were harmed.

The robber was described as black or Hispanic with a light complexion and in his 20s. He had a medium build and stood 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall.

He wore a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with a Notre Dame “Fighting Irish” logo on the front, dark-colored pants and black gloves.

Police ask anyone with information about this robbery or this subject to call the FBI at 215–418–4000 or the Philadelphia Police Department. There may be a reward for information leading to this subject’s capture; tipsters may remain anonymous.
