Happy ending for missing dog

The Northeast Times has helped reunite a lost dog with his Somerton home.

On Saturday, Somerton Civic Association zoning chairman Seth Kaplan notified the Times that someone had returned his wayward pit bull/lab mix named “Champ” after seeing the pooch’s photo in May 22 editions of the newspaper.

Champ, an obedience school graduate as evidenced by the mortarboard cap worn in his mug shot, nonetheless ran from his owners in the area of Loesche Elementary School earlier this month. Kaplan sought help from folks in his civic association and from the Times in finding the canine.

It turned out that a local woman spotted the wandering Champ and took him as a foster pet in hopes of finding his rightful owners. She saw the article in the paper and called Kaplan, he said. ••
