The nonprofit Discover Boating on the Delaware is encouraging people to take advantage of the fun activities available on the Delaware River.
“We want to see more happen on our river from a recreational standpoint,” said Dana Russikoff, a West Mayfair resident and member of the Delaware River City Corporation.
Russikoff and her husband, Ron. are co-owners of SureShade, a company at 13440 Damar Drive in Somerton that offers retractable boat shade systems.
On Saturday, Discover Boating on the Delaware hosted the local celebration of National Marina Day at Penn’s Landing. The organization is led by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council’s Delaware River ambassadors.
The ambassadors spoke to Penn’s Landing visitors about ways to enjoy the riverfront, such as taking boat rides, kayaking, visiting the Independence Seaport Museum and joining one of dozens of yacht clubs as a social member. They are also trying to get the marine industry interested in making more use of the river from Trenton to the Delaware Bay.
“We want to shine a spotlight on this river,” Dana Russikoff said.
Russikoff is pleased with the progress made by the DCCC, which has focused on building trails and parks. She hopes private waterfront land owners move forward with their previously announced grand plans for housing and other amenities.
“We want to see riverfront development,” she said.
