An unattended Philadelphia police car appeared to have a mind of its own when it rolled backward and crashed into a Northeast auto repair shop on Sunday.
According to a department spokeswoman, an 8th district officer had exited the car on the 2300 block of Welsh Road at about 2:30 a.m. to chase an aggravated assault suspect on foot. The car ended up in reverse and struck the Goodyear shop. The officer was not injured.
Another police source said that the car has been taken out of service for repairs. The extent of the damage to the building is unknown. Police did not release information about the outcome of the foot pursuit. ••
