Upper Holmesburg elects new officers

The Upper Holmesburg Civic Association elected new officers during the group’s monthly meeting last Thursday. The new officers look just like the old ones.

All current office-holders ran unopposed and were elected unanimously for new two-year terms. They included Stan Cywinski, president; Bob Hall, vice president; Nancy Quinn, recording secretary; Bobbie Gunning, treasurer; Paul DeFinis, board member and zoning chairman; Crystal Eiswert, board member and community director; Tom Geisler, board member and accountant; Lynn Gregory, board member; Bernadette Giles, board member; and Paul Gonsiewski, board member. Two board member positions remain vacant, as does the Town Watch president job.

In other UHCA business:

The group sent a letter to CVS Pharmacy asking that the company reduce the noise generated by the air conditioning units at its Frankford Avenue and Strahle Street store. Also, the civic group asked that the store do a better job picking up loose trash on the property and securing its Dumpster.

The civic group sent a letter to the owners of a shopping center at Frankford Avenue and Ashburner Street to ask that they prevent tractor trailers from parking in the lot. Neighbors believe that truckers use the lot as a rest stop, even those with no deliveries to any of the businesses there.

The civic group contacted the owner of a rental property on the 8600 block of Torresdale Ave. to ask that he do something about suspected drug activity at the site. The civic group also reported the problem to police.

The civic group plans to contact the city’s 311 hotline and City Councilman Bobby Henon to ask that someone mow the overgrown weeds at the former Liddonfield Homes project and repair a fallen perimeter fence. ••
